REGRET by IVLAKE Is a 140 BPM Future Riddim Single From a South Korean Producer

REGRET by IVLAKE Is a 140 BPM Future Riddim Single From a South Korean Producer

The South Korean Web Designer Produces and Mixes the Track, with Words by Seojin Lee

REGRET by IVLAKE runs at 140 beats per minute, the working tempo of dubstep and its offshoots. Its maker files it under future riddim and, more bluntly, under aggressive. IVLAKE, a web designer and music producer from South Korea, produced and mixed the 3:12 single, which came out on 29 May. Meanwhile, the credits give the words and the composition to Seojin Lee.

IVLAKE’s REGRET is in the playlist below, among the dubstep and bass tracks this desk keeps on rotation, and the producer’s artist profile tracks the rest of the coverage. The single reached this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news sites. Give it a spin, then keep reading for where it fits.

Future Riddim Pushed Melody Into the Riddim Drop, and REGRET Arrives Six Years Later From South Korea

Riddim started as the most stripped-back strain of dubstep. A short, repeating figure is hammered across the drop at 140 BPM. Very little else is allowed to get in its way.

Future riddim kept the skeleton and let harmony back in. In April 2020 the producer Leotrix told his Instagram followers that a new genre had arrived. Four months later, Oolacile launched Halcyon, a label built around the idea. Its first release, the eight-track Halcyon Sound Vol. 1, put SVDDEN DEATH and Leotrix on the same record. Others were already stretching the frame: Phonon had been known for polyriddim, riddim played in 7/4. The argument about whether future riddim was a genre or a variation never quite settled. Still, the name stuck, and producers started tagging their tracks with it.

That tag is now a meeting point for producers who will never share a stage. A track filed under future riddim can come from Australia, the United States or a home studio in South Korea. As a result, it reaches the same playlists and listeners, because the label on the upload tells them what to expect. REGRET uses the tag in exactly that way.

IVLAKE Lists Web Design Next to Music Production, and REGRET Came Before a Debut EP Built With Collaborators

IVLAKE describes the project in two plain roles, web designer and music producer. The link page sends listeners to Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud and YouTube, and it also points to a GitHub account. The Instagram account tags @fedora.recs and carries a stream link for the STARGAZER707 EP.

On REGRET, the credits split the work cleanly. They name Seojin Lee for the words and the composition. They also name IVLAKE as producer, executive producer and mixing engineer. So the final balance of the track comes from the same hands that put it together. In a style that lives or dies on how hard the drop lands, keeping the mix in-house is a meaningful choice.

The wider catalogue shows a producer who works with others as readily as alone. Then, in October, IVLAKE’s Instagram announced the debut EP, STARGAZER707. It has four tracks: the title track with 4noko, TAKE ME AWAY, VENDETTA with GEM1 XD and LOST.DiR. All four also sit on the SoundCloud page next to REGRET, which went up there the day after its release. So two of those five tracks carry a collaborator’s name.

Where REGRET Sits Next to Leotrix and Oolacile, and Who the Single Is For

Leotrix and Oolacile are the obvious reference points: one named the style in public, the other gave it a label and a first compilation. REGRET belongs to the generation that came after both moves. It was made by a producer working well outside that original circle, in South Korea, and released as an independent single.

First, REGRET is for listeners who already follow future riddim through its labels and playlists and want a new name. It also suits DJs who build heavier 140 BPM sets and like to know what a track is before they load it.

TopMusic.News’s curator team:

“Plenty of producers describe their music in soft terms. IVLAKE tags REGRET as aggressive and gives the tempo as 140 BPM, which tells a DJ where it fits in a set before the first listen.”

Where to Stream REGRET by IVLAKE and Follow the Producer Across Every Platform

Finding REGRET takes no effort. Stream it on Spotify or Deezer. You can also play it on YouTube, next to SHOT FOR COCYTOS and the rest of the catalogue. At 3:12, it drops into a playlist or a DJ set without rearranging anything around it.

Follow IVLAKE on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, SoundCloud, YouTube channel, Instagram and X, and find every other link on the official link page.
