Emily Weurth and Gregory Dibs Recorded Green Day’s 2004 Power Ballad as a Downtempo Duet

Two analogue signals, one mixer. On the Got Dibs cover of Boulevard of Broken Dreams, a vocal and a piano share one Allen & Heath ZED-14. Emily Weurth sings, Gregory Dibs plays, and he mixes and masters the result himself. The husband-and-wife pair recorded it at their Green Trombone Records studio. It turns Green Day’s 2004 single into a chill downtempo cover, out since 28 August 2026.

Got Dibs and Emily Weurth’s Boulevard of Broken Dreams is in the playlist below. The full run of Got Dibs coverage sits on his artist profile. This cover reached TopMusic.News through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news desks. Play it once, then read on for how they made it.

Got Dibs is the electronic project of Gregory Dibs, a classically trained pianist and jazz trombonist. His production began in high school in Petaluma, California, in 2010. DJ sets at UC Davis followed in 2013. Today he also runs the label behind this release as founder and CEO. It is an independent EDM label and production house with more than 90 official releases across eight artists. His own records usually lean towards deep house and other dance styles. So a slow cover led by piano sits closer to his classical training than to that club catalogue.

Emily Weurth and Got Dibs Have Released Music Together Since 2020

Emily Weurth is the other half of the record, and his wife. Their first joint single, Feelin so Fine, came out in September 2020, and Medusa followed a few weeks later. Since then they have shared a long run of singles and two EPs, Phoenix and Revibed. The ten-track album Radiance followed in November 2025. Spotify lists both of them as main artists on Boulevard of Broken Dreams. That billing also matches the session, where the production decisions were his.

This is also their second cover of 2026. In June the pair released their version of Coldplay’s Viva la Vida. Both singles take a well-known rock song into their own studio and rebuild it there.

The Got Dibs Cover Gives Boulevard of Broken Dreams Two Parts, a Vocal and a Roland HP-704 Piano

Green Day released the original on 29 November 2004, as the second single from American Idiot. Billie Joe Armstrong wrote the lyrics, and the band wrote the music. Rob Cavallo produced it with them, and the song went on to win the Grammy for Record of the Year. It is a power ballad, and the album version runs 4:22.

The Got Dibs version runs 3:12, roughly 70 seconds shorter. Its arrangement also rests on two performances. Gregory Dibs played his part on a Roland HP-704 digital piano. A quarter-inch cable carried it straight into the mixer, with no microphone in the room. That choice shapes the build of the track. As a result, the piano arrives as a clean line signal, free of room sound. So the vocal is the only part of the recording that travelled through the air.

The closest reference point is Everything but the Girl, the duo of Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt. The couple married in 2009. Their song Missing first appeared on Amplified Heart in 1994. Todd Terry’s 1995 remix then carried it around the world and pointed the pair towards electronic music. By contrast, Got Dibs and Emily Weurth travel the same road in the opposite direction. They carry a rock hit into electronic downtempo, rather than a quiet song into the clubs.

Two Analogue Signals Through One Allen & Heath ZED-14 Mixer Before Gregory Dibs Mixes and Masters

The vocal chain is short. Emily Weurth recorded her take on an Audio-Technica AT2035 condenser microphone. That signal met the piano’s line signal on the ZED-14. After that, Gregory Dibs mixed and mastered the track himself. Every stage of the record, from the takes to the final loudness, stays inside his own label.

In fact, that self-contained way of working is the house method. On his YouTube channel, Dibs invites demos for the label, plus collaboration, mixing and mastering enquiries. His SoundCloud profile describes him as a producer, DJ and piano and brass specialist. For that reason, this is an organic recording in the plain sense of the word. It has a real piano part, a real vocal take, and one person responsible for how they sit together.

Zero 7 offer a useful comparison for that last step. Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker worked as engineers at RAK Studios in London. Their 1997 remix of Radiohead’s Climbing Up the Walls was the first time they used the Zero 7 name. Zero 7’s 2001 debut, Simple Things, then built downtempo records around guest singers such as Sia. The shared ground is an engineer’s instinct for how much space a voice needs in a mix. Here, Gregory Dibs makes that call on his wife’s take.

Where to Hear the Got Dibs Cover and Follow Emily Weurth and Green Trombone Records

Boulevard of Broken Dreams suits downtempo and chillout playlists and evening listening. It also suits anyone who grew up with American Idiot and wants the song without the stadium scale. Similarly, fans who follow Got Dibs for his house releases will hear the same producer at a lower tempo. His partner is still at the microphone.

TopMusic.News curator team: “Gregory Dibs approaches this cover as a pianist first and a producer second. That order lets it sit beside his club records on a late playlist without sounding out of place.”

Stream the single on Spotify, and work through the label’s catalogue in the Green Trombone Records playlist. Follow Got Dibs across platforms: Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, YouTube channel, Instagram, Facebook, and X.
