Longing Protocol Remix: Hior Chronik Puts Analogue Warmth in DJ Wei's Signal Chain
A Berlin Composer Reworks a Kuala Lumpur Label Founder’s Single Fifteen Years After Unspoken Words
Gentle beats, warm analogue synths and a melody that keeps hesitating fill the four minutes and ten seconds of Longing Protocol (Hior Chronik’s Remix). The remix came out on 23 September 2026. Hior Chronik, the Greek composer based in Berlin, reworked the single for DJ Wei, founder of the Kuala Lumpur label mü-nest. The fragile melodic line of the original stays at the centre of the mix.
DJ Wei’s Longing Protocol sits in the playlist below in Hior Chronik’s remix, next to this desk’s electronic chillout and downtempo picks, and DJ Wei’s wider coverage is on the DJ Wei profile. The remix came to TopMusic.News through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news titles. Listen through once, then read on for how Hior Chronik built the mix.

The Arrangement of the Longing Protocol Remix Keeps DJ Wei’s Fragile Melodic Line in Place
DJ Wei released the original Longing Protocol on 25 February 2026. DJ Wei wrote and produced it, and Can Can handled the mastering. It is an instrumental built on a restrained rhythmic pulse and a melodic line that sounds almost mechanical. First the motif repeats; then it falters and repeats again. That is the whole idea: the track takes its cue from a robot that only observes, until it slowly develops a longing nobody designed into it. When Stereofox covered the original in April, it singled out exactly that faltering motif as the centre of the piece.
Hior Chronik does not tear that structure down. Instead, the remix holds on to the melodic core and changes what sits around it. Gentle beats replace the stricter pulse. Underneath, subtle movement keeps the loop from standing still. The result runs to just over four minutes, more than a minute longer than the original. As a result, each return of the motif has more space around it.
Two Remixes, Two Readings of the Same Machine
Longing Protocol has already been remixed once. Akitsugu Fukushima’s version arrived on 10 June 2026 and ran to two minutes and forty-two seconds. Apple Music lists it under house. Hior Chronik goes the other way, slowing the build and stretching the arrangement, and Apple Music lists the new release under electronica. Side by side, the two remixes show how much room the original motif leaves. One reading heads for the dance floor; the other suits the late-night listen.

Warm Analogue Synths and a Slower Build Move the Mix Toward the Human Side
The original turns on the tension between machine precision and human feeling, and the remix answers it with sound. For example, warm analogue synths replace colder tones. Meanwhile, the beats stay restrained instead of pushing toward a club drop. Hior Chronik drew on the final days of summer, when the warmth lingers but the season is already turning. That is a fair description of the mix. The precision of the original survives, but something softer now surrounds it.
The approach also makes sense against Hior Chronik’s own catalogue. Athens is where it started: Hior Chronik, born there in 1974, worked as a radio producer at JazzFM and as a magazine editor. Minimal piano patterns came next, and they later met electronica and vocals. Today, from a base in Berlin, the catalogue has passed 35 million streams. It includes two albums on 7K!, Out of the Dust in 2017 and Blind Heaven in 2019. Three more came out on Ki Records: Descent, Haze and Crave For More. There are also collaborations with Arovane on A Strangely Isolated Place. Piano, strings and trumpet carry most of that work. So beats and analogue synths mark a deliberate step towards DJ Wei’s side of the booth.

Fifteen Years After Unspoken Words, the Remix Brings Hior Chronik Back to Mü-Nest
The collaboration also closes a loop. In November 2011, mü-nest released Unspoken Words, a Hior Chronik album made between Athens and Berlin. On that album, Akira Kosemura added piano and Takeshi Nishimoto added guitar, while Wei handled the A&R. Now the label brings the composer back to remix its founder’s own single. Wei started mü-nest in 2006, and its catalogue leans towards melodic electro-acoustic, ambient and neo-classical music. As a result, one release now connects the electronic scenes of Berlin and Kuala Lumpur.
DJ Wei comes to the record from the DJ booth. His sets cover underground electronic, chill house, downtempo and left-field sounds. He has played festivals across Kuala Lumpur and Penang, with appearances in Taiwan and Macao. Producing his own music is a recent step. That makes a remix from an artist with Hior Chronik’s history a useful signal of how far Longing Protocol can travel.
Where the Longing Protocol Remix Fits, From Late-Night Electronica Playlists to Christian Löffler Fans
Listeners who like melodic electronica with an ambient edge will find the most here. Fans of Christian Löffler have a direct line in. Hior Chronik has played piano in Christian Löffler’s live ensemble and releases on Ki Records, the label Löffler co-founded in 2009. Similarly, the remix shares that blend of soft beats and melancholy melody. Fans of Kiasmos, the duo of Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen, should also recognise the method. After all, their records set minimal techno rhythms under neo-classical melodies. Longing Protocol (Hior Chronik’s Remix) works at a smaller, quieter scale, but it draws on the same pairing of restraint and warmth.
TopMusic.News’s curator team: “Hior Chronik leaves DJ Wei’s hesitant motif exactly where it was and changes the room around it. The move from cold precision to analogue warmth, plus a full extra minute of space, shows how far a remix can travel while the melody stays put.”
