Most catalogue singles do not come with a backstory this specific. The Kohta Takahashi chillstep track with the crew has one. In the composer’s own words it is unofficial music for a Ridge Racer game that exists only in his head. He wrote it around the race results and the crew conversation afterwards. He put it out on 8 January 2022. It still holds a place in our rotation, because the concept produced real arrangement decisions rather than a gimmick.

The listener this suits programmes across tempos rather than sticking to one. They want melodic content in their electronic music but no patience for a track that never commits to a rhythm.
Blackmill is the obvious touchstone for how chillstep carries melodic weight without turning ambient. This track works from that premise, then pushes harder. Netsky built a career on drum and bass that stayed musical while the drums did the heavy lifting, which is the balance the faster passages reach for. Those three place the record without flattening it. A genre-blending track needs reference points more than a single-genre one does. Otherwise a listener has no shorthand for it.
