Check It Out If You Like Quirky Indy Experimental Soundtrack Music

Will Lisil 11 July 2022

The independent music scene has always been a niche market for people who defy conventional tastes. In today’s internet age, it is easier than ever to discover music that may have previously eluded you and the genre clashes are more interesting than ever.

What sets indie experimental soundtrack music apart from pop, rock, and classic music is that it is mainly written and produced by a single independent artist.

It’s usually characterized by dissonant synthesizer tones, allusions to the emotional or psychological condition of the artist, and a lot of other elements you can normally find in electronic music. It also works as a proper audio therapy, which we really recommend as it’s a good experience and also helps to relax.

Indie experimental soundtrack music is by no means a new fad, it has been around for as long as electronic music and even newer indie subgenres, but more so with the latter.

This is because a lot of indie filmmakers are starting to go out of their comfort zone and then experimenting with newer genres to create new, fresh and wonderful sounds that they wouldn’t normally make.

This is why indie experimental soundtrack music is becoming more and more popular, basically, goes hand in hand. The problem is, that people don’t really know what this music really is. So let’s explore some common characteristics found in good indie experimental soundtracks. I will also show you some bands that have been known to create this kind of music.

You can listen to our full playlist which contains experimental music, and know more about the artists by scrolling down the page.

1) SONOMANCER – Dreamscapes

If you’re into quirkier music, check out the new single from the Australian band Sonomancer. They’re a psychedelic electronic experimental band that delivers heavy metal, avant-garde and electronic experimental sounds with a prog-rock twist. Their new single, Dreamscapes, is a dreamy soundscape that has been defined by producers from PopHits.Co as electro post-rock and soundtrack music.

About the sound style, they’ve been described as cinematic and atmospheric, but we’d say they’re more like a cross between psych-rock and dream pop—which makes sense considering they’re based in Melbourne.

If you like quirky indie experimental soundtrack music with a heavy metal edge, then be sure to check out Dreamscapes by Sonomancer today. Watch their music video and follow the band on Spotify!

2) DISCO DREAMS – Cryptic [K]night

If you’re a fan of dreamy, electronic, ambient music, then you’re going to love the new single from Disco Dreams.

Disco Dreams is an independent band from Cleveland, Ohio whose music has been described as “cinematic” and “bedroom pop.” The band’s new single, “Cryptic [K]night,” is a perfect example of their eclectic style: it combines elements of dream-pop and shoegaze with rocky effects and easy-listening melodies to create a sound that is uniquely their own.

If you’re looking for something new to listen to that will take you on a journey through space and time—and maybe even give you some ideas for your next film project—then this new single from Disco Dreams is definitely worth checking out and following the band on Spotify.

3) ITAY KASHTI – EU Democracy

ITAY KASHTI is an indie producer and musician from London, UK. His single EU Democracy is a great example of his unique style, which combines electronic beats with chillwave and ambient soundscapes.

The song features soothing synth pads, ethereal keyboards and atmospheric electric guitars. The result is a catchy tune that will make you feel like you’re floating on clouds.

If you’re looking for some experimental, relaxing music to listen to, check out this new chillwave, electronic, and experimental beats release by ITAY KASHTI. The song is called EU Democracy and it’s a great addition to any soundtrack or playlist. Follow the artist on Spotify!

4) SPENCER ELLIOTT – SE3

If you’re into quirky indie experimental soundtrack music and you love progressive rock, check out the new release from Spencer Elliott. The band is based in the United States, West Virginia, and their new album is called SE3.

The whole project is a mix of acoustic metal, prog rock, and funk tones, resulting in amazing instrumental sounds that you will not regret listening to. We identified post-rock and even some groovy anthemic songs that give that hint of cinematic soundtracks.

It’s got a relaxing vibe to it yet it’s still pretty catchy, the track called The Wolf And The Hawk is the best example of it, seems like it’s telling a history without lyrics. If you like what you hear, check out Spencer Elliott on Spotify and follow them for more!

5) PROJECT 21 – Out Of The Dark

PROJECT 21, a new indie experimental soundtrack released by an independent artist, is a great example of what’s possible when you combine hip-hop beats and rap with avant-garde music.

The single is called Out Of The Dark. It’s a relaxing song that is perfect for chilling out or as background music for playing video games or working on your computer. The band is based in Jamaica, Kingston and they describe themselves as Anarchic Avant-garde artists.

This song is perfect for people who like alternative music, chillout, experimental music, trip-hop and roots. Follow the artist on Spotify!

6) RESTLESS MOSAIC – Made By Thawing Ice

If you like quirky, experimental electronic music with female vocals and spoken-word style, then check out this new track from Restless Mosaic.

Made By Thawing Ice is a leftfield, experimental electronica track with a cinematic soundscape. It’s got jungle beats, ambient synths, and eclectic instrumentation featuring everything from piano to bass to even a xylophone sound.

The track is full of sound—there’s a lot going on in the background, but you can still hear all of the individual elements clearly.

Some songs feature spoken word parts, there are other tracks with lyrics, and others with an instrumental that just might make you want to dance around your living room while listening to it, for example, the song called V of Mood. Now decide by yourself how to describe this album, check it out and follow the band on Spotify!
