When it comes to creating a powerful and energetic atmosphere, nothing does the trick quite like some good and intriguing music. The type of sound that grabs your attention just by being different.
Whether you’re just relaxing, writing, composing, working or exploring the depths of your creative mind in search of new ideas, there’s an unspoken need to relate to something energetic and motivational.
Let’s explore a bit more about the world of the soundtrack and instrumental music. Here you have some of the freshest independent soundtrack and instrumental music released recently that encompasses all music genres.
We have to mention that soundtrack and instrumental music are one of the keys to creating a diverse, evolving and interesting atmosphere as well, that’s why they are so wanted by the film industry.
A piece of good music with this quality will create a soundtrack atmosphere with a variety of styles not only for expressing sound but mainly emotions. Cinematic soundtracks are all about emotions, so your day can be inspired emotionally as cinema productions do, this can lead to making you have new ideas and even solve problems easily. We should experiment with it more often!
Here’s an example: A good soundtrack or instrumental music selection includes different sizes and instruments, coming together to create a unique blend of instrumentation. This instrumentation mixed with intriguing sounds transports you to another dimension. That’s when it starts working to inspire you.
Basically, soundtrack music produces an organic and well-balanced sound that is distinct from the individual musical artists showcased on the mainstream playlists, which makes it worth a try. You can listen to our full playlist which contains the artists’ music, and know more about their work by scrolling down the page.
1) MICHAEL DONOGHUE – Fractals
If you’re looking for some new soundtrack music to listen to, to use on your productions and to get inspired, check out the album Fractals by Michael Donoghue.
This 8-track album is a great way to get lost in soundscapes that feel like they were made for a futuristic movie. The tracks are experimental and dark—but still upbeat enough to make you want to move your body. If you’re looking for something moody and atmospheric, this album is for you!
The artist is located in Jersey, NJ and has been making music for some years. according to the artist, this album came in a different manner:
“This was a strange album to construct. The majority of the tracks come from a dark place, which I didn’t realise I was in until hearing everything back. That being said, it’s a weirdly nice album. One to put on when you’re reflecting and soul searching, or maybe if you want to meditate for 5 minutes (see Inner Space).”
MICHAEL DONOGHUE
Our favourite track is Mantis, you can start from there, but there is a lot to explore. If you’re into electronic music, experimental sounds, ambient drones or industrial beats, this album should be right up your alley. It’s perfect for people who love dark wave music or want something that feels like a soundtrack of some kind. Check it out, visit his BandCamp and follow him on Spotify.
2) DJ RIGHTEOUS – Inherit The Earth
Inherit The Earth is an 11-track album by DJ Righteous, a Brooklyn-based hip-hop artist. The album is available on streaming services and gained some good attention.
It features a variety of genres and styles, including boom-bap, trap, lo-fi hip-hop, and cinematic beats. The album’s title track is an instrumental that includes elements of dancehall and groove. Inherit The Earth is exactly what you’d expect from a DJ Righteous project: it’s relaxing, it grooves, and it’s all about having fun and feeling the emotional sonic influences!
Our favourite track on the album, “New King Riddim”, has a strong drum beat that drives the song forward; the rhythm feels like it could have been lifted straight from a James Brown song. The saxophone makes your soul start moving and it’s quite tropical too, which is a plus. In fact, there are no lyrics at all in this song—just pure instrumentation and dancing beats!
“Pillow Talk” is another banger, it opens with a synth guitar strumming lightly over some percussion instruments before settling into a steady rhythm that feels like it could be used as background music in any famous movie scene set in a futuristic landscape.
“Inherit The Earth” is an album full of surprises, but Hip-Hop is in the spotlight and blends a lot of instrumentations we are normally not expecting. It normally builds slowly over the mellow piano and guitar chords until it explodes into an emotional one. It’s worth trying – check it out, visit the producer’s website and follow on Spotify.
3) CONFORMIST – Heddiw Feat H O R S E S
In the world of music, it’s easy to get lost in the sea of artists and styles. But when you hear something that is so unusual and innovative, it can be hard to find a place to categorize it.
We’re talking about the UK-based producer CONFORMIST aka Michael A. Simmons and his single “Heddiw” (Today in Welsh), which is featuring H O R S E S. This track has been described by producers from PopHIts.Co as “post-punk” and “avant-garde” but also as electronic, experimental, leftfield, and glitchy. It’s basically art-pop beats with ethereal male vocals. We know what you’re thinking: “What does all that mean?” Well, we’ll tell you!
Let’s start with the first two words: post-punk. This is a genre that grew out of punk rock in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It’s an offshoot of punk rock that focuses on more experimental sounds than traditional punk music does; these experiments often include synths or electronic elements like drum machines instead of just guitars and basses playing pulsating rhythms in 4/4 time signature (which is common in most rock genres).
The goal here is not just to make music but also to challenge listeners’ perceptions about what music can sound like—it’s more about pushing boundaries than following conventions.
If you are into ominous sounds and experimentation, then this single is for you. Check it out, visit the artist’s website and follow on Spotify.
4) ELLIS HADLOCK – Timeless Moods
ELLIS HADLOCK is an independent artist from Phoenix, Arizona. He has just released his new album Timeless Moods, which consists of 8-track instrumental sounds that are perfect for inspiring your imagination, making us more creative, meditating, studying and relaxing.
The album is full of beautiful sounds, from the warm and ethereal to the upbeat and electronic. It’s a bit like a soundtrack for a film you’ve never seen—it’s cinematic, but also calming and relaxing. As mentioned by the artist, the main goal is to transform the ambience:
“I enjoy creating expressive, beautiful, and innovative instrumental music. A variety of genres, from ambient to rock, relaxing to upbeat. My main goal, in all my music projects, is to create a positive atmosphere. About my new album, Timeless Moods… hear the timeless sounds, feelings, emotions, memories, solitude, heart, and other things that matter and go on. Enjoy the timeless journey.”
ELLIS HADLOCK
The album features a wide range of themes and styles, with songs ranging from downtempo chillwave to banger-worthy beats. There’s even a track called “Walking The Timeless” that will get those feet moving!
This is the producer’s first project on his Spotify profile, and is already a banger! He has previously released 14 albums, but this is our favourite. No matter which track you listen to, it’s easy to get lost in the moment while listening to this album—and it’s perfect for your productions, studying or just chilling out after a long day. 5) XAFRAN – Find A Way
When it comes to electronic music, there are few artists who can boast the level of experience that XAFRAN has. Drawing on his background in retro EDM, the Washington D.C.-based producer and musician has created a sound that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking.
His 4-track debut album Find A Way is no exception, featuring a mix of chillwave, experimental electronica, and synth-pop—all wrapped up with some of the most ethereal vocals you’ll hear this year.
Although XAFRAN’s music is often described as cinematic or soundtrack-like, we prefer to think of it as “thematic”. For example, it’s very versatile, at the same time that the tracks “Find A Way” and “Running Out Of Daylight” could be on the most famous Netflix series as a soundtrack, “Feeling Cold About It” and “Retro Eyes” could be a banger exploding on the radio worldwide. Each of them evokes a different kind of emotion. This is very difficult to achieve, so we can consider this EP a piece of pure sonic art.
The result of this approach is a collection of songs that are both introspective and optimistic. One track even features an upbeat beat and 80s vibe that would make Madonna blush with envy. This is our favourite EP of the week, it’s extremely pop-rock expressive and is the perfect cinema soundtrack at its best.
If you’re looking for something versatile and different from what’s already out there today, then look no further than XAFRAN’s Find A Way. Check it out, visit the artist’s website and follow on Spotify.
6) TIMOTHY SAWYER SHEPARD – Long Ago Forgotten
Timothy Sawyer Shepard‘s Long Ago Forgotten is an 11-track album that will transport you to the world of British art-pop culture. Shepard’s music has an experimental sound, with glitches and quirky elements throughout. The album has a cinematic soundscape that is perfect for a soundtrack or an instrumental background.
It’s all about art, this artist works not only sound, but visual, paper, and other elements. So you can imagine watching his art in a gallery must be mindblowing. The set of sound, video, and static art can, for sure, transport the audience to a different dimension. This is what soundtrack and instrumental music are all about.
It’s hard to describe Timothy Sawyer Shepard’s music with just one word; it’s so much more than that. The music is experimental and glitchy, while also being cinematic and ambient. It blends together elements of old-school Britpop, trip-hop, experimental pop, and electronica into one cohesive soundscape that will have you intrigued.
Long Ago Forgotten is an album that can be listened to in its entirety or featured as a soundtrack for a movie or TV show—Producers will definitely going to try it out as a backdrop for video productions! Check it out, visit the artist’s BandCamp, his website and follow him on Spotify.
